Underlord legacy
Several
centuries ago two celestial overlords: Randor and Finavus waged war. A
fearsome war that began to stress even the fabric of space. Suns and
planets were destroyed and the delicate gravitational balance of our
galaxy faced serious threat. The overlords' kinsmen took notice and
sought to defuse the situation. First the overlords dispatched their
children, the angel-like Praen to act as anchors for the galaxy's
stability. Next the two disruptive overlords where exiled until their
differences were settled. They would select champions to fight in their
place to avoid further destruction. The winner would be welcomed back
into the fold while the loser would be banished for all eternity. Randor
searched the galaxy for a powerful being to be his champion. He found
Beshian, the demon Queen of Husk. Beshian saw the potential to
strengthen her bloodline and accepted Randor's offer. While Randor
chose a dark path to find a champion, Finavus chose a different
approach. Finavus bred with the inhabitants of Tiben and fathered a race
of demigods. He sparked a madness induced internal war that produced
only one survivor, Finavus's champion, Trendal. The result of the
champions battle is a story for another time. As the last survivor of
his race Trendal was given a magic halo and one wish. Trendal asked for
the very essence of his fallen brethren to live on long into the future.
His wish was granted and soulselves called Eidolons were born from the
decimated bodies of his people. These Eidolons are free to choose human
vessels. When this happens a powerful begin called an Underlord is born.
Finavus left a message on the demigod battleground known as the Field of
Souls. The message contains the magical language of the Underlord and
the specifics of their powers and purpose. Any person regardless of
their origin can comprehend the Underlord language.
Underlord genesis
The
first Underlords were a group of monks from Finavus's chosen planet:
Tiben. They studied Finavus's message and preformed experiments in
attempt to awaken the dormant Eidolons. After twenty-five years of
studies the ghost were finally awakened and forty-one of the monks were
called. The more prominent of these first Underlords was Shinaba. He was
a born leader, which gave these Underlords a sense of security in their
brave new journey. Shinaba was an ultraconservative and as such decided
the power the monks gained was too dangerous to introduce to the rest of
the galaxy. Shinaba ordered all newly called Underlords killed before
their union was completed. All but one obeyed this rule, Trajan. Trajan
realized Shinaba's decree would violate the purpose of the Underlords.
One other joined him. That man would become one the greatest and
eventually the most feared of all, Romus. Trajan and Romus founded Solum,
a secret academy for the purpose of rescuing and training others who
were called. They liberated thirty Underlords before Shinaba discovered
the location of the hidden school. Shinaba sought the destruction of the
academy, its teachers and students. Shinaba's forces spent the next
seven years hunting down and destroying the out manned students of Solum
in the "Purification War". Trajan and Romus remained at each other's
side fighting for their cause as unyielding rebels. Both sides suffered
considerable losses to their ranks as was apparent on the day of the
final battle. When both forces met to settle the dispute, Shinaba and
his followers had been reduced to six while Trajan, Romus and four of
their student remained. The ensuing battle would decide the future of
the Underlords. Shinaba and Trajan became locked in a battle that
resulted in Trajan sacrificing himself to destroy Shinaba. With Shinaba
destroyed, his followers quickly surrendered and Romus claimed victory.
Romus returned to Tiben and rebuilt the monastery into a grand learning
center. He renamed the grounds the Trajan academy. To this day the
academy is the center of Underlord education and rule. Romus would go on
to master several others and rule the nation for two thousand years.
