A wonderful day it was for me to receive three comics in the
mail all the way from Australia thanks to a contest I won. Two of those
books were from two of the top four publishers in the industry, while one was
the very independent Super Real, the subject of this edition of Installation.
Yep, it was that good!
Five very different people from five very different walks of
life between the ages of 19-29 are selected to appear on the latest reality
television series on the XTV network. These five participants will earn
their fifteen minutes of fame by receiving genetic implants that turn them into
real live super heroes. It's Real World and Survivor mixed with capes and
tights, and it's a blast.
In this first issue we are introduced to the characters.
You have
Holly
Hood, a 24 year old Go-Go dancer;
Michael
Dasquea, a 21 year old body builder;
Kityana
Bliss, the chatty 19 year old blonde bombshell Model;
Warren
Campbell, the 29 year old aging club kid; and
Shana
Payne, the failed internet business owner. She's the black sheep of
the group. Together these are the cast.
In addition to getting a peek into each of the cast members'
lives and motivations for trying out for the show, we also see how the idea for
this whole reality series came to be in the issue as the idea is pitched to the
XTV producer. It's a comical, quirky and fun adventure into the reality TV
craze, and is a must read for lovers of original and innovative concepts that
challenge the usual offerings.
Super Real is published bi-monthly and is available worldwide
through comic book and specialty shops NOW. It is completely created and
self-published by industry newcomer, Jason Martin. Each issue is also
being printed with a variant cover by an up and coming artist on the rise.
The variant covers are also included in each issue in the form of a pull out
poster with an interview with the artist on the back.
