Buddy Scalera Bio
Writer of 7 Days to Fame |
Buddy Scalera is
the production manager for a leading medical news
website.
He has written online consumer health content,
multimedia interactions, and marketing materials for
several large pharmaceutical corporations including:
Merck-Medco, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Ortho Biotech,
Novartis, Aventis, and others.
On the side, Scalera makes short films and writes comic
books.
At his previous job, Scalera was the original Online
Editor for Wizard Entertainment. He was joined by Rus
Wooton in developing Wizardworld.com, Wizardschool.com,
Toyfare.com, Toywishes.com, and Inquestmag.com. Under
Scalera's direction, the Wizardworld.com network of
sites became one of the hottest daily destinations for
comic book fans. The site featured an impressive array
of news and feature content, which was leveraged as a
marketing and promotions tool. The Wizardschool.com site
was so sticky that Scalera hosted live interactive
Wizard School events at conventions in Chicago and
Philadelphia.
As a professional comic book writer and journalist,
Scalera knows the inside details of the comics industry.
Because of his background as a newspaper reporter, he
also knows how to make the labyrinth of details and
rules easily accessible to the average reader. He has
written over 100 articles on the topic of comic books.
His journalistic credits include Wizard, Comic Buyer’s
Guide, Comics Values Monthly, Collector’s Advantage,
Scarlet Street, Combo, Spin Online, and others. He was
featured as a professional source in a chapter of the
recently published book “The Science of Superheroes”
written by Lois Gresh and Robert Weinberg (Wiley, 2002).
For over four years, Scalera also wrote and hosted “ComixVision,”
a cable-access television show that explained the comic
book hobby to mainstream viewers. While the show never
got beyond local cable, many people wrote in to express
how much they had learned from the show.
Scalera is also an active self-publisher. With his
partner Darren Sanchez, After Hours Press released the
graphic novels Necrotic and Celestial Alliance. He is
also self-publishing “Visual Reference for Comic
Artists,” a series of multimedia art-reference CD-ROMs.
Scalera holds BA in Journalism from Hofstra University.
After graduation, he became a staff reporter for the
local newspaper. He's held jobs in public relations,
marketing, and web development.
